{"id":9716,"date":"2024-11-28T09:49:05","date_gmt":"2024-11-27T23:49:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wimr.org.au\/?post_type=news&#038;p=9716"},"modified":"2025-01-11T21:13:11","modified_gmt":"2025-01-11T11:13:11","slug":"wimr-led-team-wins-the-2024-sprint-to-create-competition","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/wimr.org.au\/news\/wimr-led-team-wins-the-2024-sprint-to-create-competition\/","title":{"rendered":"WIMR-led team wins the 2024 Sprint to Create competition"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Congratulations to WIMR\u2019s Translational Transplantation Therapies team who recently won the Sydney University Sprint to Create competition.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\u00a0<em>Sprint to Create\u00a0<\/em>initiative is a joint effort between the University of Sydney\u2019s Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Medicine and Health, ultimately awarding a $150,000 grant to support the development of new treatments for disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:0px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Close to 50 teams competed in this innovative competition, and five teams won $20,000 along with the opportunity to further develop their projects and present their prototypes in the finals competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The winning pitch was \u201cImproving Marginal Organs Using Machine Perfusion, Microbubbles and Ultrasonography\u201d, presented by Dr Rajith Amaratunga and led by Professor Wayne Hawthorne. Professor Hawthorne\u2019s team were named winners of the 2024\u00a0<em>Sprint to Create\u00a0<\/em>competition and were given a further $150,000 to continue their program in 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The judges unanimously praised the extremely innovative, high quality of the projects, noting the strong technical foundations of each project and the amazing translational aspects of the projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Professor Ken-Tye Yong, a member of the&nbsp;<em>Sprint to Create<\/em>&nbsp;steering committee said of the winning WIMR-led project, \u201cIt represents a critical step forward in bridging healthcare gaps through innovative solutions.
