{"id":2902,"date":"2019-04-16T15:27:19","date_gmt":"2019-04-16T05:27:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wimr.org.au\/?post_type=wimr_news&#038;p=2902"},"modified":"2024-09-30T18:26:32","modified_gmt":"2024-09-30T08:26:32","slug":"meet-the-researcher-seminar-series-crohns-and-colitis","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/wimr.org.au\/news\/meet-the-researcher-seminar-series-crohns-and-colitis\/","title":{"rendered":"Meet the Researcher Seminar Series: Crohn&#8217;s and Colitis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"lead\">The Westmead Institute for Medical Research is launching a new bimonthly seminar series, \u2018Meet the Researcher\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The free information sessions will give you the opportunity to hear from our world-class researchers, who will showcase our research into some of the most serious health conditions affecting Australians and people around the world.<\/p>\n<p>The first information session for the year is on\u00a0<strong>Crohn\u2019s disease and ulcerative colitis<\/strong>, to mark Crohn\u2019s and Colitis Awareness Month, held in May.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PhD student Chloe Doyle<\/strong>\u00a0will present her latest research on the potential causes of Crohn\u2019s disease.<\/p>\n<p>A panel discussion will look at how researchers and clinicians collaborate to tackle Crohn\u2019s disease and ulcerative colitis, and make new discoveries to improve outcomes for patients.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Our panellists:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westmeadinstitute.org.au\/people\/researcher-profiles-search\/associate-professor-scott-byrne\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Associate Professor Scott Byrne<\/a>\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>conjoint Group Leader of the Autoinflammatory Diseases Group at The Westmead Institute for Medical Research.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westmeadinstitute.org.au\/people\/researcher-profiles-search\/dr-golo-ahlenstiel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Associate Professor Golo Ahlenstiel<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0&#8211; Group Leader of the Liver Immunology Group at The Westmead Institute for Medical Research, and a Staff Specialist in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Westmead Hospital.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Dr Grahame Ctercteko<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; Head of the Colorectal Surgery Unit at Westmead Hospital.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westmeadinstitute.org.au\/people\/researcher-profiles-search\/associate-professor-andrew-harman\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Associate Professor Andrew Harman (moderator)<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; conjoint Group Leader of the Autoinflammatory Diseases Group at The Westmead Institute for Medical Research.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>A Q&amp;A session<\/strong>\u00a0will follow the panel discussion, so please prepare any questions you may have about our research.<\/p>\n<p>Drinks and canap\u00e9s will be served at the event.
